Shot on Goal After Self-Pass

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Set up a goal, an orientation cone, and a starting cone as shown. Players and balls are at the starting cone.

Procedure

The player passes the ball 2-3 metres ahead into his own run and shoots on goal from the movement. Variation 1: The player chips the ball forward to himself and shoots volley on goal after the ball bounces once. Variation 2: Like variation 1, but this time the player shoots volley on goal from the air without the ball touching the ground first. Variation 3: The player chips the ball forward to himself and shoots a drop kick on goal as the ball bounces.

Tip

- Demand shots with the weak foot as well (always alternating once right - once left, etc.). - Pay attention to body posture when shooting (upper body over the ball; plant foot approx. 30-40 cm offset to the side of the ball, foot pointing in the shooting direction; arms swing along; the arm closest to the kicking leg follows the leg's backswing motion (when shooting with the right, the right arm goes back and the left arm forward); eyes are on the ball at the moment of the shot). - For the volley shot, the upper body is slightly bent forward. The ball is struck at a low point (not too high). This gives the ball more power and greater accuracy. - For the drop kick, the ball is struck with the instep at the exact moment it touches the ground. - As soon as one player has shot, the next starts immediately to avoid delays. - The orientation cone serves as a visual aid. When the ball is at the height of this cone, the shot should be taken. - Don't play the pass too hard but also not too slowly. - 2 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
