Shot on goal at two goals after diagonal pass

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point

Setup

A field marked by four cones is set up with two goals facing each other. The players are evenly distributed among the four cones. The balls are distributed between cone stations A and C.

Procedure

Player A opens with a long ball to player B, who lets the ball bounce diagonally into the centre of the field. Player C sprints to the ball, dribbles, and then shoots on goal. The players then rotate positions clockwise. The diagonal opening balls are always played alternately from positions A and C.

Tip

- The long opening pass can be played as a driven aerial ball or as a ground pass. In both cases, it must be played with the inside of the foot (contact surface is half inside of the foot, half instep). Unlike the ground pass, for the aerial ball the foot is placed further under the ball with a slight backward lean. - The pass and the subsequent layoff should be played to the strong foot. - The receiver makes a short counter-movement as soon as the passer begins the backswing, then comes briefly toward the ball. - Short explosive dribbling with close ball control. - Pay attention to proper body position when shooting: upper body over the ball; standing foot approximately 30-40 cm to the side of the ball, foot pointing in the direction of the shot; arms swing along; the arm nearest to the kicking leg follows the backswing of the leg, the other arm is brought forward; eyes are on the ball at the moment of the shot. - Different shooting techniques (inside of the foot, instep, curving etc.) can be practised (possibly on the coach's instruction). - 4 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
