Shot on goal + reaction

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

The goalkeeper is in the goal. The goalkeeper coach (GC) positions themselves with balls 10-16 m in front of the goal.

Procedure

The GC throws a ball from the hand diagonally and high at crossbar height, alternating right/left. The goalkeeper runs loosely from the goal line and tries to catch the ball relatively high up. 4 balls each side.

Tip

- Run on the balls of the feet, not on the entire foot or the heels. - Light, easy steps, no stomping or pounding, be light on your feet. - The goalkeeper must always move on the front foot/balls of the feet and should not fall backward. They should learn to always watch the ball until they have it under control. - Just before the GC strikes the ball, the goalkeeper makes a small two-footed hop or a short step forward, spreads the arms to the sides, slightly bends at the knees, and stands on the balls of the feet. The feet point toward the coach and are about hip-width apart; the upper body leans slightly forward and the eyes track the ball. - The body must always be brought behind the ball during the save. - During the save, the goalkeeper must never fall backward, always forward. - The caught ball is thrown back to the GC. - 1 full-size goal(s)
