Set up a field marked by four cones with two goals facing each other. The players distribute themselves evenly at the four cones. One ball per pair of players.
Procedure
Player A plays a long ball to Player B and then runs toward the goal. Player B lays the ball off back to A so that A can then shoot on goal. After the shot, A moves to B's position and B takes A's position. The drill alternates from both sides.
Tip
- The long opening pass can be played as a straight lofted ball or as a flat pass. In both cases, it must be played with an inside-of-the-foot strike (the contact surface is half inside of the foot, half instep). Unlike the flat pass, for the lofted ball the foot gets further under the ball and the player leans back slightly. - The pass and the subsequent layoff should be played to the strong foot. - Pay attention to proper body position when shooting: upper body over the ball; plant foot approx. 30-40 cm to the side of the ball, foot pointing in the direction of the shot; arms swing along; the arm closest to the shooting leg follows the leg's backswing, the other arm moves forward; eyes are on the ball at the moment of the shot. - 4 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
