Shot on Two Goals with Overlapping Run, Dribbling, Crossing, and Finishing
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetMain point
Number of Players6 - 9 players, 10-15 players
Setup
A field is marked out with four cones. A goal is set up on each short side. Two groups are formed (blue/red) and positioned on the sides of the goals as shown in the diagram. The blue players A and the opposite red group players have the balls. An additional cone is placed in the centre of the field.
Procedure
Player A starts the drill with a flat, diagonal pass that Player B runs onto. Player A overlaps B toward the goal line. Player B receives the ball, dribbles toward the centre cone, and plays the ball into A's run. B then continues into the penalty area and tries to finish A's cross. After completing the sequence, both players run behind the goal they played on and line up behind the group diagonally opposite their original starting position. The red group then begins with the same running and passing patterns.
Tip
- The opening ball played by A must be timed so that Player B can reach it after a short sprint. - During dribbling, focus on close ball control and maintaining a high running tempo. The diagonal through ball to Player A must be timed so that the player can cross it at full speed just before the goal line. - Player B waits at the edge of the penalty area until Player A begins the backswing for the cross. Only then does he run into the penalty area for the finish. - The type of finish depends on the type of delivery (flat pass, half-high/high cross). In any case, a first-time finish should be attempted. - When finishing with a shot, pay attention to the following body position: upper body over the ball; plant foot approx. 30-40 cm to the side of the ball, foot pointing in the direction of the shot; arms swing along; the arm closest to the shooting leg follows the leg's backswing, the other arm moves forward; eyes are on the ball at the moment of the shot. - 5 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
