Shots from Acute Angles

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

A goalkeeper coach and possibly another coach/player or goalkeeper position themselves with a ball inside the penalty area, 10 metres away at an angle to the goal (see graphic). A goalkeeper goes into the goal.

Procedure

The goalkeeper coach shoots from an acute angle, alternating between low, half-high, and high balls at the goal. The goalkeeper must save the balls. After each shot, the goalkeeper has time to reposition himself.

Tip

- The shots should vary in power (soft/hard) and placement (low, half-high, high, at the body, beside the body). - The distance of the shooter to the goal should not exceed 10 m. - The goalkeeper must optimally narrow the shooting angle through his positioning. To do this, he stands 1-2 m in front of the goal line and has a distance of about an arm's length from the near post. - The goalkeeper tries to catch the balls securely. - If the ball is shot too hard or too precisely into the corners, it must be deflected to the side. - Just before the shooter strikes the ball, the goalkeeper makes a small two-footed hop forward, spreads the arms to the sides, slightly bends the knees, and stands on the balls of the feet. The feet point toward the shooter and are about hip-width apart, the upper body leans slightly forward, and the eyes fix on the ball. - The goalkeeper must not fall backward during the save or open the goal by diving too early. - 1 full-size goal(s)
