Shots into the Top Corners

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

A goalkeeper positions himself in the centre of the goal, with a second goalkeeper behind him. The goalkeeper coach (GC) positions himself centrally at 10 m distance from the goal with the balls.

Procedure

The GC alternately volleys balls into the left and right upper corners. The goalkeeper reacts as soon as he sees the GC begin his shooting motion. One of the two goalkeepers only reacts to shots toward the right corner and the other only to shots toward the left. Intensity: 6-8 repetitions. Then switch sides.

Tip

- It is important for the goalkeeper not to fall backward during his dive to the corner. If he cannot hold the ball, it should be deflected away to the side of the goal. - Just before the shooter strikes the ball, the goalkeeper makes a small two-footed hop or a short step forward, spreads his arms to the sides, bends slightly at the knees and stands on the balls of his feet. The feet point toward the shooter and are about hip-width apart, the upper body is slightly leaned forward and the eyes are fixed on the ball. - The takeoff occurs either without or with only one intermediate step. Multiple steps cause too great a time loss. The body weight is on the push-off leg at takeoff. - The goalkeeper falls to the side with a swing step. To the right by generating momentum through the right foot and pushing off through the balls of the feet. To the left by generating momentum through the left foot. - 1 full-size goal(s)
