Set up two small hurdles in a row. The players line up one behind the other. No more than 6-8 players per station.
Procedure
The players start with a straight run of 1-2 metres to the first hurdle and then begin the side steps. During the side step, the legs are moved laterally together and apart at the highest possible speed. The feet touch when brought together. The arms can also move parallel to the leg movement, but swing past each other when brought together. After the players pass the last hurdle with side steps, a short sprint can/should follow.
Tip
- Palms are open (makes a difference of 3/100 sec for a sprinter). - Run on the balls of the feet, not on the whole foot or the heels. - Light, nimble footwork, no stomping or pounding. - Arms move across in front of the body. - Quick, short movements. - Short ground contact time.
