Set up two small hurdles in a row. Players line up one behind the other. No more than 6-8 players per station.
Procedure
Players start with a straight run of 1-2 metres to the first hurdle, then begin the sidesteps. During the sidestep, the legs are moved laterally together and apart again as fast as possible. The feet touch when brought together. The arms can also move parallel to the leg movement, swinging past each other when brought together. After passing the last hurdle with sidesteps, a short sprint should follow.
Tip
- Palms are open (this makes a 3/100 sec. difference for a sprinter). - Run on the balls of the feet, not flat-footed or on the heels. - Light, nimble footwork, no stomping or pounding. - Arms move in a crossover motion in front of the body. - Quick, short movements. - Short ground contact time. - 2 hurdle(s)
