A field is marked out with cones. A goal with a goalkeeper is set up on one end of the field. 10 field players take their positions as shown in the diagram. Two players each go to the left and right wings at the height of the 18-yard box, standing 6-8 metres apart. Three cones are placed at the midfield arc, with 2 players at each.
Procedure
The drill begins with a one-two between Players B and A. The ball returned by B is played directly by A into the run of Player E. Simultaneously with the pass from B to E, Players I and J start toward the goal. Their running paths cross at the 18-yard line. E finishes the ball played by B by crossing it at full speed in front of the goal. B covers the back space, and H, who starts toward the goal at the same time as I and J, finishes any crosses that I and J cannot reach. The set play is then run from the other side.
Tip
- Before the players start running, the stance should be staggered and the start is on the balls of the feet. - The ball-expecting wide player A makes a counter-movement. - The receiver's initial movement begins with the passer's backswing. - The strikers cross toward the near and far post. - When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser's backswing. - Ensure that the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a quick, fluid overall movement. - Constantly demand accuracy and speed (slow execution does not lead to game-like success in the long run). - Players should learn (similar to a game) to observe and apply what they observe. - Eyes should regularly look up from the ball (alternating between looking at the ball and ahead). - 3 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
