A field is marked out with cones. A goal with a goalkeeper is set up on one end. 4 field players take their positions as shown in the diagram. One player goes to the left wing, 22 metres from the 18-yard box corner. Two players position themselves 20-25 metres apart at midfield and one player centrally 7 metres from the 18-yard box.
Procedure
The drill begins with a through ball from H to J, who lays it off directly into the run of Player D. D dribbles a few metres with the ball and passes to H. H plays the ball out to the right wing into J's run. J finishes H's ball by crossing it at full speed in front of the goal. Simultaneously with H's pass to J, Player D starts toward the left wing and overlaps I toward the far post. I sprints toward the centre of the goal/near post. H covers the back space. All three try to finish the cross.
Tip
- Before the players start running, the stance should be staggered and the start is on the balls of the feet. - Eyes should regularly look up from the ball (alternating between looking at the ball and ahead). - The player expecting the pass makes a short counter-movement simultaneously with the passer's backswing and runs toward the passer. - 4 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
