A field is marked out with cones. A goal with a goalkeeper is set up on one end. 4 field players take their positions as shown in the diagram. One player goes to each the left and right wing, 28 metres from the 18-yard box corner. One player goes to the kickoff point at midfield and one player centrally at the height of the 18-yard box.
Procedure
The drill begins with a through ball from H to J. J plays it on to I, who plays a diagonal ball to the right wing. D finishes I's ball by crossing it at full speed in front of the goal. Simultaneously with H's pass to J, J starts toward the near post and H toward the back space. When D begins the backswing, J sprints toward the far post. All three try to finish the cross.
Tip
- Eyes should regularly look up from the ball (alternating between looking at the ball and ahead). - The player expecting the pass makes a short counter-movement simultaneously with the passer's backswing. - When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser's backswing. - The crossing players and attackers must not start too early. - Ensure that the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a quick, fluid overall movement. - Constantly demand accuracy and speed (slow execution does not lead to game-like success in the long run). - Players should learn (similar to a game) to observe and apply what they observe. - The pass should be played into the running path of the player expecting the ball. - 4 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
