Simple Shot on Goal with Wall Passer

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players

Setup

Set up a goal and a starting cone for the players. A wall passer positions himself next to the goal. The balls are with the players at the starting cone.

Procedure

The player at the starting cone plays a pass to the wall passer standing to the side of the goal and runs toward the goal. The wall passer passes the ball back into the player's running path so that the player can shoot directly on goal. Then the next player starts from the starting cone, etc. The wall passer rotates regularly. Variations: 1. The starting player takes the ball with him and shoots with the second touch on goal. 2. Starting player plays a ground pass or aerial ball. 3. The wall passer plays the ball back flat or high. 4. Competition: Count goals, the wall passer may convert the rebound. In this variation, the wall passer may leave his position after passing the ball back and actively convert the rebound in his favour.

Tip

- The goal is to learn the correct inside-of-the-foot shot, instep shot, inside-instep shot, and curling technique to increase shot power and shot precision. - Demand shots with the weak foot as well (always alternating once right - once left, etc.). - Pay attention to body posture when shooting (upper body over the ball; plant foot approx. 30-40 cm offset to the side of the ball, foot pointing in the shooting direction; arms swing along; the arm closest to the kicking leg follows the leg's backswing motion (when shooting with the right, the right arm goes back and the left arm forward); eyes are on the ball at the moment of the shot). - As soon as one player has shot, the next starts immediately to avoid delays. - When the starting player opens with an aerial ball to the wall passer, it should be played with the inside-instep. This gives the ball a linear, slightly rising flight path and can thus be transferred much faster from A to B compared to a curving ball played with the inside of the foot. - The wall passer makes a short counter-movement as soon as the starting player goes into the backswing and then comes briefly toward the ball. - The ball reception and control should be a fluid movement. Excessive bouncing of the ball or reception deviating from a straight running path should be avoided. - Ball reception and control should generally be done with one touch; the shot on goal is thus taken with the second touch. - 2 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
