Small-Sided Game Attacking Down the Flank II

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set End
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: Play takes place in one half of the pitch. A full-size goal stands on the halfway line, the second is the regular goal on the goal line. Two rows of flat markers level with the side lines of the penalty area run from the goal line to the halfway line and divide the pitch into three zones, that is a central zone and two flanks.

Equipment: Flat markers, bibs, balls, 2 goals.

Players: Two teams, each with a goalkeeper. With an odd number of players, one neutral player is nominated who plays exclusively for the attacking team. The format described is designed for training a U14 and should be adapted for small-pitch teams or for reduced full-pitch teams.

Procedure

  • The two teams play a free game against each other.
  • The flanks may only be played into with passes, dribbling into them is not allowed.
  • Goals can only be scored directly after a pass from the flank or from the flank itself.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • The attacking side should force quick switches of play so that the defence cannot cover the flanks in time.
  • Shot feints after passes from the flank create time and produce a goal threat.
