Small-Sided Game Through Pass

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set End
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: Mark out an area of 25 x 25 metres with cones and set up 2 mini goals on each of two opposite sides. In front of the goals a 5 metre deep end zone is marked on both sides.

Equipment: Cones, 4 mini goals, bibs in two colours, balls.

Players: Two teams of 3 players each, who move freely in the playing area.

Procedure

  • The two teams play a 3 vs 3 on the mini goals.
  • A goal only counts if the goalscorer is standing in the end zone.
  • The end zone may not be entered with the ball, so the ball has to be received there with a pass.
  • Play is with offside.

Progression:

  • Limit the touches in the end zone in order to force a quick finish.

Variations:

  • Reverse the end zones so that finishes may only be taken in front of the zone.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • The free players have to create maximum depth in order to show for the ball in the end zone.
  • The players in possession should play brave passes in behind in order to reach the team-mates in the end zone.
