Small-Sided Game Vertical TikiTaka

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set End
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: Mark out a pitch the width of the penalty area, it runs from the goal line to the halfway line. Four rows of flat markers running across divide it into 5 zones of equal depth. The regular full-size goal stands on the goal line, a second goal on the halfway line.

Equipment: Flat markers, bibs, balls, 2 goals.

Players: Two teams, each with a goalkeeper.

Procedure

  • A free game is played with special rules.
  • The ball must not be passed within a zone, it must always be played forwards or backwards.
  • The zone may only be changed by a pass, not by dribbling.
  • With one pass at most one zone may be skipped, so play is allowed at most into the zone after next.
  • If a rule is broken, the opposition gets the ball.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • The players must keep showing for the ball and getting free near the ball.
  • The goalkeeper should push up high in order to create additional passing options.
  • Secure passes come from a standing foot pointing towards the target and a firm ankle.
  • The quicker the play, the bigger the problems for the defence.
