Sprint Dribbling with Short Pass

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players

Setup

A cone square is set up. Two players stand at the starting cone, and one player stands at each of the other cones.

Procedure

5 players, 1 ball Player A passes the ball to Player B and follows his pass. Player B sprints diagonally with the ball to Player C and hands off the ball at full speed with a short pass to Player C. Player C controls the ball and then passes to Player D, or passes the ball directly to D. Then a diagonal dribble takes place again. The sequence should be performed in both directions. Alternative: 6 players, 1 ball The starting positions must be diagonally opposite and double-occupied.

Tip

- When dribbling, the ball should not be more than 50 centimetres from the foot. Do not take overly large steps. - Accuracy before speed. - It is most effective to lead the ball with the outside of the foot and occasionally correct with the inside of the foot. - During the ball handoff, the ball must not be passed too hard. - The ball-expecting player positions himself slightly offset to the side so that the passer can see which foot he wants to receive the ball with. - The ball-expecting player starts his counter-movement simultaneously with the passer's backswing. - When receiving and taking the first touch, the plant foot is often too far from the ball or the player frequently leans backward. - When passing or controlling the ball, the foot should be slightly raised and swung downward toward the ball. - Many players control the ball with the instep or the outside of the foot. Receiving and controlling the ball with the inside of the foot, slightly leaning over the ball, is significantly easier as a first step. - 4 cones
