Star Passing Sequence

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: Set up two squares inside one another with a total of 8 flat markers. The inner square measures about 5 x 5 metres, the outer one about 15 x 15 metres.

Equipment: 8 flat markers, 2 balls.

Players: Each of the four inner flat markers is occupied by one player. Of the four outer corners, two diagonally opposite ones are occupied by two players each and receive one ball each, while the two remaining ones are occupied by one player each.

Procedure

  • The passing sequence starts at the two outer corners that are occupied by two players; both balls run at the same time and as mirror images of each other.
  • Play goes alternately from an outer flat marker to an inner flat marker and diagonally onwards from there, so that the passing pattern describes the shape of a star.
  • The passers always follow the ball they have played, so that the flat markers are continually filled again.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • Start at a calm tempo and build up gradually to firm, driven passes.
  • Make sure that the foot nearer the ball is used for the pass.
  • Before the pass the players should move one or two steps away from their flat marker, which simulates the opponent.
  • Demand clear communication between passer and receiver.
