Stepover

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

The trick can be practiced in a coned-in area or anywhere where the player has some space.

Procedure

The player starts dribbling the ball with his right outstep and then moves his right foot from left to right over the ball. He then pulls his left leg over the ball in the same manner and knocks the ball with the outside of his left past the opponent. Alternative:

- First without an opponent.

- Practice the skill standing.

- Practice the skill while in movement.

- Substitute a cone for the opponent.

- Train with both feet.

- Goals which are scored in training, preceded by a stepover, are worth two points.

Tip

4 cones or more, - The step over is a full body action, i.e. the upper body must lean to the right (the opposite direction) while the ball is played to the left. - The player should attempt to dummy his opponent with the movement of his upper body as much as possible. As a result, the player with the ball can win some time. - The upper body should be slightly leant forwards. - The player should move on the balls of his feet. - At the start of the trick, the player should not complete a slow, obvious movement, rather a quick and sudden stepover and upper body swerve. - Start by training slowly without obstacles or opponents. Then increase the speed and introduce obstacles (cones). Finally train the trick with an opponent. - Short, sharp movements.
