Team Game on the Flanks

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: Mark out an area of 20 x 20 metres with four cones. In the middle of two opposite sides stands a mini goal, and 1 to 2 metres in front of each of them a line of discs or flat markers marks a restricted zone. On the two remaining sides a marker goal made of two flat markers is set up level with the middle.

Equipment: 4 cones, discs or flat markers for the two lines and the two marker goals, 2 mini goals, bibs, balls.

Players: Two teams. With an odd number of players, one neutral player is nominated who plays exclusively for the attacking team.

Procedure

  • The two teams play a free game against each other.
  • The markings in front of the goals must not be crossed. If the ball comes to rest there, the defending team may retrieve it.
  • Before a goal can be scored, the attacking team must play through one of the flat marker goals on the sides, either by dribbling or by passing.

Progression:

  • At a higher level introduce additional rules, for example a touch limit, a time limit or the obligation to play through both flat marker goals.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • The attacking team should spread out wide and play quickly.
  • The flat marker goals may also be played through backwards, as they are defended less often from that direction.
