Setup

20 players take their positions according to the diagram on three-quarters of the field, and three goals are set up on the goal line and two goals on the opposite end line. Two 10-player teams are formed. The player positions are assigned as follows: 2 forwards, one player each on the right and left flanks, two midfielders in the half positions, behind them the two centre backs and fullbacks. One of the blue team's centre backs has the ball. The yellow-red team positions the back four in line formation 20-25 m in front of their own goal (8-12 metres spacing between each), in front of them the four-player midfield line, and in front of them the two forwards. To mark the midfield line, a cone is placed on each sideline and in the centre of the field. Also to mark the end line.

Procedure

Both teams play in a 4-4-2 formation. The defensive and midfield line is constantly required to execute the movement patterns of the back four. The team in possession plays in a 2-4-4 formation with two offensive wide players and two advancing fullbacks and tries to score through quick ball circulation, switches of play, overlapping runs, dribbling, crosses, and through balls. The centre back initiates the build-up play. The yellow-red team defends three small goals. The blue team defends two small goals. The offside rule applies. The blue team may score on three attacking goals. However, only goals scored with a first-time finish count.

Tip

- The focus of this game format is on practising team movement patterns with the options of 'quick transition from defence to attack' or ball control after winning the ball. Additionally, this game format trains playing in numerical advantage against a team practising a compact 4-4-2 system, with the emphasis for the blue team on pressing immediately after losing the ball. - Attention should be paid to precise and powerful passing/attacking play. - The defending team is positioned well when the opponent's ball carrier cannot play the ball forward and is prevented from dribbling through double-teaming. - 5 small goal(s), 6 cones
