Procedure
The attacker tries to get in front of the defender by increasing his running pace to pass the ball, to beat him with a cut toward the centre of the field, or to turn with his back to the opponent to protect possession. The defender matches the attacker's pace and continues trying to push him to the side or prevent a pass. If the ball is exposed, he can try to play it or position his body between the attacker and the ball. If the ball carrier checks his run, the defender should avoid turning his back to him.
