Procedure
The attacker tries to get in front of the defender by increasing his running pace to pass the ball, to beat the defender with a cut inside, or to turn with his back to the opponent to protect possession. The defender matches the attacker's pace and tries to push him to the side. If the ball is exposed, he can try to play it or position his body between the attacker and the ball. If the ball carrier checks his run, the defender should avoid turning his back to him.
