Throw, Ball Control + Pass

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

The goalkeeper stands 2-3 m in front of his goal. Approximately 6 m to his side stands the goalkeeper coach (GC) with the balls. On the halfway line on the left and right flanks, two small goals are set up.

Procedure

The GC throws the goalkeeper a ball at chest height. The goalkeeper must process the ball as quickly as possible (catch it or control it with his chest) and play it either left or right into the goals at the half positions. It is important that he alternates between using his left and right foot. Intensity: 30 repetitions. Options: A - Chest control + inside-of-the-foot pass with left B - Catch ball with both hands + inside-of-the-foot pass with right

Tip

- Constantly demand accuracy and tempo (slow execution will not lead to game-realistic success in the long run). - The standing foot should be placed 30-40 cm to the side of and at the level of the ball. - When controlling with the chest, turn the chest in the direction the ball should be passed next. - If the ball is caught, quickly turn toward the goal side where the ball should be played. - Instep shot (full instep): The toes point down, the ankle is tense and the upper body is slightly leaned over the ball. The striking surface is the back part of the top of the foot. To achieve greater distance, a slight lean back is permitted. - Inside-of-the-foot pass: The ball is struck partly with the inside and partly with the instep. The standing foot is positioned next to the ball and the player's upper body goes into a sideways lean. The toes point down, similar to the foot position for the instep shot. - 2 small goals, 1 full-size goal(s)
