Two defenders against three attackers

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

A goalkeeper, two defenders (blue) and three attackers (red) are positioned, as shown in the diagram, on the playing field marked out by cones. The attackers have the ball.

Procedure

When completing the drill: The attackers attempt to outplay the defenders and get an attempt on goal through the use of different means of attack such as quick passing combinations, overlapping, crossing over, through balls, dribbles and one-twos. The two defenders have to prevent this through clever tactical movement and aggressive conduct in the challenge. The offside rule applies.

Tip

5 cones, 1 full-court goal(s), - The two defenders always act together and must not move too far away from each other.\n- The aim is either to win possession of the ball, or to force the attacker with possession of the ball in a potential goal scoring area out sideways and block the way for a pass towards goal/a teammate by double covering him.\n
