Variable and Progressive Shooting Exercise from 1 to Multiple Attackers

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

  • 3 dummies as defenders on the goal line
  • 4 dummies about 10m ahead as midfielders
  • 3 starting cones: central/left/right
  • Sufficient balls placed at the 3 starting cones and distributed among players

Procedure

Variant 1:

  • 1 player (the one who took the shot) becomes the feeder at the central dummy defender. The player at the starting cone passes to the feeder, who lays it off, and the starter takes the shot. Always start from the left starting cone, then center, and right afterward.

Variant 2:

  • 1 player offers himself centrally between the lines (defender and midfield dummies). The starting player passes to him, the feeder lays it off, and the starter makes a run into the box for the shot. The player at the starting cone becomes the feeder for the next action. Always start from the left starting cone, then center, and right afterward.

Variant 3:

  • Play through the third player in the middle with 2 options for the shot.
  • The player at the left or right starting cone passes to the central feeder, who lays it off to the player at the middle starting cone. This player now has 2 options (the central feeder and the starter) both making runs into the box for the shot.
  • The player from the middle starting cone becomes the next feeder (central between the defender and midfield dummies).
  • Alternate between starting from the left and right cones.

Variant 4:

  • Play through the wings (2-3 fixed wingers/full-backs positioned to cross without the ball to the outer starting cone). Place outer midfield dummies in the penalty area. Only 1 central starting cone where players with balls position themselves, and 2 on the wings.
  • The starting player passes to the central feeder, who lays it off to the starter, who then plays into the depth to the winger. The starting player and feeder run into the box to try to convert the cross (2 options). The next 2 players from the starting cone begin, one with the ball, one as a feeder without the ball centrally between the lines.

Tip

Coaching:

  • Communication/showing where I want the ball played.
  • Conviction in finishing.
  • Clean, crisp passes.
  • In Variant 3, ensure both attackers don't run in the same direction.
  • In Variant 4, crossing, occupy the near and far posts, possibly involving a defender in addition.

Conduct as a competition (team or individual), counting how many goals are scored after a set time.
