Vertical Chaos

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Pitch: Lay out four flat markers as a parallelogram, the depth is about 10 to 15 metres, the width 5 to 10 metres. One flat marker each lies at the front and at the back on the longitudinal axis, the two remaining ones in between on the left and on the right.

Equipment: 4 flat markers, 1 ball.

Players: All 4 flat markers are occupied by one player each, the player at the bottom has the ball. With 5 or 6 players 2 further flat markers can be added for more depth, with 8 players the format should be set up twice.

Procedure

  • The player on the ball starts with any pass, there is no set direction.
  • The ball may only be played one-touch.
  • The passing line from the right-hand to the left-hand player and vice versa is closed, so play is only allowed forwards or backwards.
  • After every pass the passer must look for a new flat marker.
  • A player may also be passed to while changing flat markers, which makes one-twos possible.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • Start slowly and increase the tempo gradually.
  • Clear communication is decisive.
  • The players should come towards the ball.
  • Whoever is not on the ball should stay on their toes in order to be quick to react.
  • A firm ankle and a standing foot pointing towards the target make clean and firm passes possible.
  • Take a short break every 60 to 90 seconds.
