Setup

Pitch: Mark out an area of about 10 x 20 metres with four cones, designed for 12 players.

Equipment: 4 cones, bibs in three colours, 1 ball.

Players: Nominate two neutral players and divide the rest into two teams. The neutral players stand outside the short sides in a bib colour of their own, the teams stand inside the area. One team starts with the ball.

Procedure

  • The two teams play against each other and try to keep the ball within their own ranks.
  • The neutral players always play for the team in possession. They may not enter the area and may not be challenged.

Variations:

  • Set time or pass requirements for a switch of play.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • Allow ground passes only.
  • The outside players may only play first time.
  • Count the number of passes or switches of play out loud and, where appropriate, give the losing team an extra task.
  • The defence should make the game tight near the ball in order to build up pressure.
