A goal is set up on the top end of the field, with a goalkeeper inside. 8 field players are positioned on the field as shown in the diagram. Two players go to each wing with 10-15 metres of space between them. The two strikers take their positions 10 metres apart at the edge of the penalty area. The remaining players line up in pairs to the left and right behind players B and C. The balls are at the centre circle.
Procedure
The exercise starts with a diagonal ball from C to E, who lets it bounce directly to B. B passes the ball returned by E directly on to outside back A. A plays a through ball to striker I, who passes toward the wing into the run of player E. E finishes the ball played by I by crossing it at full speed in front of the goal. Player A positions himself in the left half-space. Simultaneously with the pass to the wing, the four players B, C, H, and D run toward the goal into the back space. Just before the cross by player E, the two strikers I and J run toward the goal. Their runs cross at the 18-yard line. All players try to finish the cross.
Tip
- The strikers cross toward the near and far post. - When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser begins the crossing motion. - The crossing players or attackers must not start too early. - Make sure the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a fast, fluid overall movement. - Eyes should regularly be lifted from the ball (alternating gaze between ball and forward). - The player expecting the pass makes a short check-away move at the same time as the passer's backswing. - The pass should be played into the running path of the player expecting the ball. - The passer must observe the running path of the player expecting the ball. - 1 full-size goal(s)
