A field is marked out with cones. A goal is set up on the top end of the field, with a goalkeeper inside. A total of 6 field players position themselves on the field as shown in the diagram. Two players go to each wing at the level of the penalty area, standing 10 metres apart. Two cones are placed at the halfway line, where the remaining players go. The balls are with the players at the halfway line.
Procedure
Player C plays a diagonal pass to A (1), who dribbles toward the end line (2). B and C run toward the penalty area, D and H start 2-3 seconds later into the right back space beside the penalty area. Player A must decide approximately 5 metres before the end line whether to cross into the penalty area (3a) or lay the ball off to the supporting player E (3b). In both cases, players B and C make crossing runs and occupy the positions at the near and far post. If A chooses the cross, B and C try to finish it; if the ball goes beyond the penalty area, D and H try to finish. If A chooses the layoff to E, E can either shoot himself or cross the ball from the half-space into the penalty area for B and C.
Tip
- The two players at the halfway line move toward the penalty area and cross toward the near and far post. - When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser begins the crossing motion. - The crossing players or attackers must not start too early. - Make sure the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a fast, fluid overall movement. - Constantly demand accuracy and tempo (slow execution will not lead to match-realistic success in the long run). - Players should learn (similar to a match) to observe and apply what they have observed. - Constantly correct mistakes to prevent the development of wrong automatisms. - Eyes should regularly be lifted from the ball (alternating gaze between ball and forward). - The player expecting the pass makes a short check-away move at the same time as the passer's backswing, or runs toward the passer and receives the pass while moving forward with one touch. - The pass should be played into the running path of the player expecting the ball. - The passer must observe the running path of the player expecting the ball. - 6 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
