A field is marked out with cones. A goal is set up on the top end of the field, with a goalkeeper inside. A total of 6 field players position themselves on the field as shown in the diagram. Two players go to each wing at the level of the penalty area, standing 10 metres apart. Two cones are placed at the halfway line, where the remaining players go. The balls are with the players at the halfway line.
Procedure
Player C starts with a diagonal ball to A (1) and runs together with B toward the penalty area. A starts dribbling toward the edge of the penalty area (2). At the same time, player E starts and makes an overlapping run past A toward the end line. When A reaches the edge of the penalty area, he plays a diagonal pass into the run of E (3), who crosses the ball so that it arrives 4-11 metres from the goal into the penalty area. As E begins the crossing motion, B and C, who have arrived at the penalty area, make crossing runs, occupy the positions at the near and far post, and try to finish the cross. Players D and H occupy the right back space and finish the balls that the two central strikers cannot reach.
Tip
- When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser begins the crossing motion. - The crossing players or attackers must not start too early. - Make sure the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a fast, fluid overall movement. - Constantly demand accuracy and tempo (slow execution will not lead to match-realistic success in the long run). - Players should learn (similar to a match) to observe and apply what they have observed. - Constantly correct mistakes to prevent the development of wrong automatisms. - Eyes should regularly be lifted from the ball (alternating gaze between ball and forward). - The player expecting the pass makes a short check-away move at the same time as the passer's backswing, or runs toward the passer and receives the pass while moving forward with one touch. - The pass should be played into the running path of the player expecting the ball. - The passer must observe the running path of the player expecting the ball. - 6 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
