Wing Play / Crossing X

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

A goal is set up on the top end of the field, with a goalkeeper inside. A total of 6 field players position themselves on the field as shown in the diagram. Two players go to each wing at the level of the 6-yard box and the halfway line. Two strikers position themselves at the edge of the penalty area. The balls are with the players at the halfway line.

Procedure

A plays a lofted ball to E (1) and follows his pass. E lays the ball off for the approaching A (2) and then runs to A's starting position. Shortly before A reaches the ball, the two strikers I and J cross in front of the penalty area. At the moment of the cross (3), the two strikers occupy the positions at the near and far post. The cross should be played so that the ball arrives approximately 4-11 metres from the goal in the penalty area. I and J try to finish the cross. A takes E's starting position. The next attack starts from the left side, and then alternates constantly.

Tip

- When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser begins the crossing motion. - The crossing players or attackers must not start too early. - The player expecting the pass makes a short check-away move at the same time as the passer's backswing, or runs toward the passer and lets the ball bounce back. - 1 full-size goal(s)
