A field is marked out with cones. A goal is set up on the top end of the field, with a goalkeeper inside. 4 field players position themselves on the field as shown in the diagram. One player goes to the left wing and one player to the left half-space. Two players position themselves 12 metres apart at the edge of the penalty area.
Procedure
The exercise starts with a dribble by player A (1) and a subsequent pass to J (2). J plays a one-two with player E (3) and runs onto the through ball in the penalty area (4). Striker J finishes the ball played by E by passing it at full speed in front of the goal. Simultaneously with E's pass to J, player A starts toward the penalty area and makes an overlapping run past E toward the far post. I sprints toward the centre of the goal/near post. E occupies the back space. All three try to finish the cross.
Tip
- The attacking player starts with the passer's backswing. - The strikers cross toward the near and far post. Player E moves into the back space. - When the crosser begins the crossing motion, the two strikers start their crossing runs. - 4 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
