A field is marked out with cones. A goal is set up on the top end of the field, with a goalkeeper inside. 4 field players position themselves on the field as shown in the diagram. One player goes to the left wing and one player to the left half-space at the halfway line. Two players position themselves 12 metres apart at the edge of the penalty area.
Procedure
The exercise starts with a pass from E to striker J (1), who lets the ball bounce back to the left side to player A (2). A dribbles (3) and then plays a pass to E (4), who directly plays a through ball into the running path of J (5). J runs onto the through ball in the penalty area and finishes the pass by crossing the ball at full speed in front of the goal (6). Simultaneously with E's pass to J, player A starts toward the penalty area and makes an overlapping run past E toward the far post. I sprints toward the centre of the goal/near post. E occupies the back space. All three try to finish the cross.
Tip
- The attacking player starts with the passer's backswing. - The strikers cross toward the near and far post. Player E moves into the back space. - When the crosser begins the crossing motion, the two strikers start their crossing runs. - 4 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
