Wing Play with Defender V

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point

Setup

A goal is placed on one end of the field, with a goalkeeper inside. 15 field players are positioned according to the diagram. On the left flank, two offensive players are placed 2-5 metres apart along with one defensive player. The two forwards take their positions with their opponents 5 metres apart, at the height of the penalty spot. Three more offensive players position themselves at the edge of the penalty area with three defensive players. One additional attacker goes into the back area with a defender.

Procedure

The game starts either with a cross (2) from player A into the penalty area or a pass from the same player (1.1) into the running path of player E. E tries to beat a defensive player and cross into the penalty area (1.2). Simultaneously with player E's or A's finishing action, players B, C, and D make runs toward the goal into the back area. The two forwards I and J cross and occupy positions at the near and far post. Player H lurks in the back area. All players try to convert the cross.

Tip

- The forwards cross toward the near and far post. - When crossing, it is important that the players explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser begins his delivery motion. - The crossing players/attackers must not start too early. - The crosser should play sharp, precise passes. - The defenders should close down the path to goal. Stand offset to the side so the attacker has to take the far-side route. - The defensive player tries to attack the attacker as early as possible so he cannot build up speed, and if possible, to position his body with the shoulder forward between himself and the attacker. - Both defensive players stand offset forward to the side. - The pass should be played into the running path of the player expecting the ball. - The speed dribble by the flank player A must be explosive. - 1 full-size goal(s)
