Passing with Different Runs and Goal Attempts

  • Organisation

    Set up the exercise as shown with 4 cones. Two or more players can stand at the start cone. (1) Shot on goal

     

  • Process

    Player A passes a long ball (on the ground or in the air) to player B and then sprints after his pass. Player B lays the ball off for A to run onto who then passes to C. C passes a short pass to B. At the same time, player D sprints towards the 18 yard box. Player B passes the ball into space, down the middle for D to run on to, he should reach the ball approx. 14 - 18m from goal. D shoots at goal, and then takes up the position from player A. All players then move on one position.

  • Tip

    Start by running the drill slowly and then increase the speed. The player waiting for the ball should always make a short, quick dummy run away from the ball before controlling it. At a high tempo and with just 4 players this exercise can be extremely tiring.

    - Under time contrictions, this is a very realistic and challenging passing dril.

    - The players waiting for the ball should call for each ball.

    - The timing of the pass and the timing of the start are key.

    - Precision is more important than speed.

    - Concentration must be held at all times.

    - The passes should be played hard along the ground.

    - The player should lift his foot slightly when laying the ball off - Goals!
